    How to record this drill

Record 45–60 seconds showing 5–7 sequences. This is the scoring clip, not the full 25-30 minutes practice session.

Elevated 3/4 angle, camera high elevated (~8–10 ft off the ground), 20+ yards back — keeper AND the full defensive line or set-piece setup visible in the same frame.

    Objective

Command the box on set pieces — position defenders, communicate, and execute the keeper's action.

    Setup

Goal, gloves, 4 cones, 3-4 partners, 10 balls.

    Instructions
    1. Scenario 1 - Corners (5 reps): Position defenders, call 'KEEPER' or 'AWAY', catch or punch each delivery
    2. Scenario 2 - Free kicks (5 reps): Set wall, position yourself, make the save or parry wide
    3. Scenario 3 - Crosses (5 reps): Call early, claim at highest point, then distribute quickly
    4. Scenario 4 - Through balls (5 reps): Call 'DROP', sprint out, slide to collect or clear the ball
    5. Every rep MUST end with a keeper action: catch, punch, save, sweep, or clear
    6. When setting the wall, avoid placing the shortest defender on the outside edge. Begin by aligning the outside of the wall with the near post, then adjust so approximately one and a half players extend beyond that line to help protect against a curling shot around the wall.
    7. After calling 'AWAY,' immediately move into the best available position to react to the next shot or second ball. Communication does not replace recovery positioning.
    8. Track success rate: aim for 80%+ successful claims after correct communication
    What good looks like
    • Clear, early calls before every delivery
    • Position adjusted for ball location
    • Every rep ends with a keeper action — catch, punch, save, sweep, clear
    • Defenders organised before the kick is taken
    Common mistakes
    • Quiet keeper — no communication
    • Wrong position — not narrowing or widening as needed
    • No keeper action at the end — passive observer
    • Panic communication that confuses defenders
