    How to record this drill

Record 30–45 seconds showing 7–10 actions. This is the scoring clip, not the full 15-20 minutes practice session.

Side-on, camera waist-to-chest height (~3–5 ft off the ground), 10–15 yards back — receiving first touch AND outgoing pass both visible.

    Objective

Receive back-passes and play out from the back with composure under pressure.

    Setup

Goal, gloves, ball, 2-3 cones, partner to play balls back to you.

    Instructions
    1. Receive back passes from partner under no pressure
    2. Take a good first touch away from pressure
    3. Practice short passes to each side of the box
    4. Work on driven passes to midfield targets
    5. Gradually add a 'pressing' player to simulate pressure
    6. Scan before the ball arrives. Know where the pressure is coming from, where your teammates are positioned, and which passing option will be available after the first touch.
    What good looks like
    • Open body shape on receiving — back foot to the ball
    • First touch sets up the next pass cleanly
    • Eyes scan before the ball arrives
    • Decision is calm — short, switch, or driven
    Common mistakes
    • Heavy first touch into pressure
    • No plan before the ball arrives
    • Always playing the safe back pass — no progressive options
    • Panic clearing instead of playing out
