    How to record this drill

Record 20–30 seconds showing 5–8 attempts. This is the scoring clip, not the full 15 minutes practice session.

3/4 angle, camera waist height (~3–4 ft off the ground), 6–8 yards back — the backward drag and lateral push need to form a visible right angle in frame; slightly elevated framing helps show both touches.

    Objective

Escape pressure from behind cleanly — sole drag creates separation, lateral push opens a new direction. Reliable, simple, and very hard to read.

    Setup

One cone representing pressure from behind. Ball at feet.

    Instructions
    1. Ball at your feet with a cone representing pressure from behind
    2. Drag the ball straight backward with the sole of your right foot — firm pull, not a roll
    3. Immediately push the ball sideways (90° left) with the inside of your right foot
    4. Two touches only — no wasted dribble between them
    5. Accelerate in the new lateral direction
    6. Mirror: sole drag back, push right with inside of left foot
    What good looks like
    • Sole drag is straight backward — ball rolls parallel to the body line
    • Lateral push immediate and perpendicular — clean 90° angle
    • Two touches form a precise L-shape
    • Acceleration in the lateral direction immediately after
    Common mistakes
    • Sole drag goes sideways instead of straight back — must be directly backward
    • Second touch goes backward again instead of sideways — must be perpendicular
    • Gap between the two touches — they should be seamless
    • Too much weight on the drag — sole rolls the ball, doesn't stab it

    Foundation

    Level 1

Stationary: slow L-turn motion both feet.

    Form

    Level 2

    Against a cone pressure marker.

    Tempo

    Level 3

    Game pace, dominant foot.

    Pressure

    Level 4

    Weak foot.

    Level 6

    Build-out-from-back scenario with active pressing.

How the AI scores this drill
Primary metric: Move Execution And Exit Quality

    Technique

    30%

The move is executed with the correct mechanics for this specific drill (foot path, contact point, timing). See per-move AI instructions for exactly what to look for.

    Deception

    20%

Shoulder/body fake sells the move — an imagined defender would realistically commit. Weight transfer is visible and deliberate. The fake precedes the exit.

    Ball Control

    20%

Ball stays within playing distance (1–2 yards max) throughout the move. Exit touch is controlled. No heavy touch that gives possession away.

    Explosive Exit

    20%

Acceleration in the first 3 steps after the move. Ball pushed into open space (not dead underfoot). Player body leans forward into the burst.

    Balance & Control

    10%

Low centre of gravity during the move. Stable body position — no stumble or lurch. Player is under control at the point of exit.
