    Objective

Learn the patience of pressing — when to commit and when to hold.

    Setup

3 cones — start, press zone (5y), attacker (10y). Timer or metronome.

    Instructions
    1. Place cones: Start, Press Zone (5 yards), Attacker (10 yards)
    2. Begin in defensive stance at start
    3. On beep/timer, sprint to Press Zone cone and stop in balanced stance
    4. Hold for 2 seconds (simulating waiting for the right moment)
    5. On second beep, either: (A) jab and retreat to start, or (B) sprint through to Attacker cone
    6. Vary the pattern randomly - this trains patience, not diving in
    What good looks like
    • Patient body shape — knees bent, arms balanced
    • Sprint to the press zone, balanced stance on arrival
    • Choice of jab-and-retreat OR full commit, dictated by the cue
    • Clean recovery if you don't win the ball
    Common mistakes
    • Diving in every time — easy to beat
    • Never committing — attacker has all day
    • Same response every rep — predictable
    • Stand-up press without lowering the body
