    Random Move Challenge

A coach calls the move just before you reach the defender. Tests whether you truly own each move or just know it in isolation — execution on command, not on your terms.

    How to record this drill

Record 20–30 seconds showing 5–8 attempts. This is the scoring clip, not the full 20 minutes practice session.

Side or 3/4 angle, camera eye level (~5–6 ft off the ground), 10 yards back — single cone and 5-yard burst lane both visible; same framing as standard 1v1-moves.

    Objective

Execute any named move on command — tests whether you truly own the move or just know it in isolation. The inability to execute on command reveals exactly where the gaps are.

    Setup

One cone or passive defender. 10 yards run-up. A coach or partner ready to call move names.

    Instructions
    1. Set up a standard 1v1 cone drill
    2. Approach at pace — coach calls the specific move when you're 3-4 yards out
    3. Execute the called move exactly — no substituting an easier one
    4. Accelerate away after
    5. If you can't recall in time, stop and reset — recall speed is part of the training
    6. Progression: reduce call distance from 4 yards → 3 → 2 yards for faster reaction
    7. Goal: every named move available on demand without thinking
    What good looks like
    • Continues approach at game pace when the move is called
    • Executes the correct move without visible hesitation
    • Technique matches isolated practice — quality doesn't drop under pressure
    • Exit explosive — same burst as intentional practice
    Common mistakes
    • Substituting a comfortable move when a harder one is called — defeats the purpose
    • Slowing down to think — moves must be available at game speed
    • Needing two attempts — aim for first-time execution every call
    • Sticking to dominant foot when the call requires weak foot

    Foundation

    Level 1

Walk through all 15 moves in order — review any that feel unfamiliar.

    Form

    Level 2

Coach calls with 4 yards warning at walking pace.

    Tempo

    Level 3

Coach calls with 3 yards warning at game pace.

    Pressure

    Level 4

    2-yard warning — near-instant reaction required.

    Match Rhythm

    Level 5

Weak foot only — all calls executed with the non-dominant foot.

    Mastery

    Level 6

Live defender who doesn't know which move is called — pure execution test.

How the AI scores this drill
Primary metric: On Demand Move Execution

    Technique

    30%

The named move is executed with correct mechanics. Quality must not drop from isolated practice — being called on demand is not an excuse for degraded technique.

    Deception

    20%

Body fake still sells the move under the on-demand pressure. Shoulder/weight transfer is present even when executing a called move.

    Ball Control

    20%

Ball stays in playing distance during and after the called move. No panic touch or loss of control from the reaction pressure.

    Reaction Time

    10%

How quickly the player begins the correct move after the cue is given. Measured from the call to the start of the move's first mechanical action.

    Explosive Exit

    20%

Acceleration after the called move. The randomness of the call should not reduce the burst quality.
