    Objective

Keep possession against pressure by scanning before receiving and releasing the ball inside two touches.

    Setup

10x10 yard grid with cones. Four players on the outside, two defenders inside. Progression: shrink to 8x8 and play 3v1.

    Instructions
    1. Set up a 10x10 yard square with cones
    2. Four players on the outside, two defenders inside (4v2)
    3. Outside players keep the ball away from the defenders using one- or two-touch passes
    4. Scan before every reception — know your next pass before the ball arrives
    5. If a defender wins it or the ball leaves the grid, the player at fault swaps with the defender
    6. Progression: shrink to an 8x8 grid and play 3v1 — every player must receive on the half-turn and release inside two touches
    What good looks like
    • Outside players scan over both shoulders BEFORE the pass arrives
    • First touch opens away from the nearest defender
    • Most receptions release inside two touches
    • Outside players constantly adjust angles to give the receiver two passing options
    Common mistakes
    • Receiving with no prior scan — touch goes to the wrong foot
    • Standing still on the outside instead of adjusting the angle when a teammate moves
    • Three or more touches when one or two would clear the pressure
    • Telegraphing the next pass with the body before receiving
